Description

Find out more

The Grampians National Park (also Gariwerd) is located in the Grampians region of north-west Victoria.

We last walked this in Spring when there are lots of wildflowers, but it is great any time of year. Take your lunch to eat at the Pinnacle and lots of water, particularly when it is warm.

If you don't want to walk the whole way you can do a shorter walk from Wonderland carpark, but it does make a great walk from Halls Gap.

This information is from Parks Victoria website: "From the Main Street of Halls Gap, at the base of the sandstone mountain range that is at the heart of the Grampians National Park, or Gariwerd as it is called in the local Aboriginal language, you can see The Pinnacle. It is one of the rocky spurs jutting out from the jagged cliff faces that loom over the town.

From the street, The Pinnacle appears unnervingly high and potentially difficult to walk. The good news is that it is not, and the views from the lookout make every bit of effort worthwhile. It is one of the very best vantage points in the Grampians National Park for terrific scenic views over a vast expanse of western Victoria."

No Dogs allowed anywhere in the Grampians National Park.
See Parks Victoria link above for latest information on The Grampians, including any warnings.

The start of the walk back down towards Halls Gap is a bit of a clamber over rocks, but once you are on the track it is well marked.

Keep going over the rocks. Once you get past the rocks its quicker to descend the mountain than it was to climb!

18. The steps

There a few long sets of metal steps on the way down that makes it a bit easier to walk and to protect the bush.
