Description

Mixture of gravel paths, designated footpaths and road shoulders with a few road crossings, Be careful on uneven paths. To avoid the gravel path begin the walk at the Mooroopna War Memorial. Terrain is flat with small undulation to the gardens.

Points of Interest

1. Chinaman's Garden Reserve

Ah Wong, a Chinese migrant, set up a market garden on this site in 1877 and supplied vegetables to the district.

2. Mooroopna War Memorial

Dedicated April 1928, construction cost 1000 pounds. Redeveloped mid 2020 with new memorial panels and flagpoles installed, among other infrastructure upgrades.

3. Post Office

Mooroopnas first standalone Post Office 1884-1921, was moved due to the erosion of the river bank.

4. Watt Road Bridge

Build in 1877. Originally had a drawbridge in the centre to allow steamers to reach the wharf.

5. Flour Mill

Built in 1872. Mooroopna's oldest continuous industry, now home to Ridleys Agricultural products.

6. McLennans home 1910

Home of Reuben McLennan, original owner of the flour mill and namesake of McLennan Street.

7. Punt Crossing on the Goulburn River 1875-1877

Further upstream when the river is low enough, you can still see the remains of The Wharf, C1877.

8. SPCA  Ardmona Plant

Began processing in 1921 as a processor of deciduous fruits. Processing ceased at this site in 2011, and the site was sold in 2016.

9. Royal Mail Hotel

Built in 1877.

10. Mechanics Hall

Built in 1906.
