Summary

My walk to Village Common and Cascade Park. Both very attractive parks with plenty of unique features.

Description

I found these places out interestingly on my way to walking to a friend's place. I made my way to the Village Common which is a very nice, large, maintained park with many facilities.

Approaching the park I noticed big palm trees very reminiscent of the beach and summer. There were plenty of other trees too providing a nice cool breeze and shade for sitting under and relaxing. The playground there is surrounded by a protective fence and has a very unique, distinctive design. It has multiple tall bright red poles around the playground making it look attractive.

Another feature I really liked there was the convenience of having a water fountain in that area. This is great for kids playing and taking water breaks with the close proximity to water.

From there I went for a stroll around the park and discovered the picnic/bbq area. It has two small but decent sized barbecues and two picnic benches which was something I really liked about it. A water fountain is also located close by.

However, the negatives I discovered were the picnic benches weren't adequately shaded by the trees. Cooking or just trying to sit down on a sunny day could be difficult. The water fountain near there could have more of an improved water flow- wasn't too straight.

After I had a good stroll around the Village Common I followed the signs to the Cascade Park which by the way were very directive and helpful. It wasn't a park I've ever seen before and once there I was amazed by it. There was a very beautiful series of water blocks built in a descending fashion filled with water, ducks, and plants. The water was coming down from block to block until it reached the large lake. On each side of the cascade there's plenty of green space to walk up and down the cascade to get a good close view.

I saw plenty of ducks swimming in the water and under trees. A long walking bridge is also there allowing to watch ducks swim under the bridge and to get a close view without being too close to the water and the birds. Unfortunately there was a fair bit of plastic bottles and rubbish on the sides of the lake. I found two sitting benches placed close to the water however they are placed close to trees which they and the branches obscure the view to the surroundings.

Points of Interest

1. Sitting benches with palm trees behind

Nicely designed and maintained palm trees and benches under them. Unfortunately shade over the benches was very limited on that sunny day.

2. Playground

A unique playground with a surrounding fence and attractive red poles around play equipment.

3. Barbecue and picnic area

This area of the park has two bbqs and two picnic benches. Barbecuing on a sunny day be not be ideal as shade is very limited. Benches closer to larger trees could've been a better option I believe.

4. Overview of the water cascade

Here's an overview look of the series of water blocks descending down. Water travels down from block to block until it reaches the large park

5. Side view of bottom cascade

A side view of the last block before water enters into the lake. Some ducks in there also.

6. Ducks close-up

I got close enough to take a pic of some ducks. Looks like one is taking a rest. I saw plenty more of them walking on this side of the park close to the trees.

7. Back of the lake

This is a long view of the lake from the far left end. Here's a duck sitting on a rock.

8. Bridge view

A view from the bridge. From here both sides of the lake can be seen. It's a good way to view the ducks in the water from a safe distance- not getting too close to the water.
