Summary

There is a footbridge at Armstrong Road and another at Marlbrough Road and 2.5km of easy walking between them on both sides of the creek. The paths are quite different though to keep it interesting.

Description

At the Armstrong Road footbridge the Dandenong Creek emerges from its man made underground course and becomes something like a creek again.

The shared path that follows its Southern bank is asphalt, fast and flat but subject to a good deal of cycle traffic but once you cross the footbridge at Marlborough Road to the North side and head East the path becomes unsealed, gravel, shady with more pleasant aspects and some short hills and dales along the high side of the creek. And it returns you to where you started.

The Armstrong footbridge is about 1500m from both the Bayswater and Heathmont railway stations with pleasant walking routes along the Ringwood - Belgrave Rail trail.

There is also extensive parking at the H.E.Parker Reserve at the start of the walk together with toilets, drinking fountains, playground and picnic tables. Further up the creek (about 1200m) there are similar facilities including BBQs at the Marie Wallace Reserve in Bayswater.

While 'Dandy Creek' is very much an urban watercourse and the graffiti tags are everywhere to remind you that you haven't really escaped the urban jungle it is far enough away from motor cars and advertising hoardings to provide a little respite and relaxation for an hour or so.
