An appealing walk around the reedy (!) west and south outskirts of Reedy Lake. While other parts of the lake provide better opportunities for bird spotting, this track is accessible year-round.

This is a walk along one of the Parks and Wildlife maintenance vehicle tracks. It is 5km each way.
While this route does not offer as much opportunity to see spectacular birdlife as the North & East walks, it has the advantage of year round accessibility.
The experience is tremendously variable depending on the time of year, the weather and the extend of the maintenance. The first time I walked it the reeds had largely overrun the track, creating an eerie atmosphere of being totally lost, and meaning that nothing much, except reeds, could be seen for much of it.
Subsequently P&W have mowed it, and it's remained much more accessible since. For all that accessibility, it's never the same walk at a 3 months' gap; the reeds vary from brown to green, tall to short, thick to sparse, changing both the near and the distant sights.

The Murray carp barrier (and annoyance for canoeists). Excellent chance to see monstrous fish.

It depends a bit on the season, but this is probably your first view of the Barwon
Tangled lignum & reeds
Either green, red or brown depending on season & water levels. This plant seems to live a very specific distance from the water. Te close you get to the river or the lake, the less of it you see.
After heavy rain the lake puts down outposts. The real opportunities to see birdlife are on the East & North walks, but some can be seen here
