Lots going on in the suburbs! Food swaps, community plantings, a lake, off-leash dog walking, an historical housing development, farmers markets and cafes!
Coburg North food swap meets at the picnic tables near the flying fox on the third Saturday of every month 10am. Bring home-grown produce, baked goodies, a thermos of tea or even worm tea to share!
Dog walkers or those arriving by car may prefer to enter at this end of the park, closer to the dog off-leash area.
Dogs must be on-lead around the playground, baseball park and creek shared path but may wander freely in this southern part of Parker Reserve (if they're under owner's effective control of course!)
Locals from group Coburg Lake and Surrounds helped Moreland Council to construct a frog pond / wetland area to help clean storm water run-off into the creek near the Goleen St creek entrance.
The creek path is a shared path for pedestrians and for cyclists. Dogs must be on-leash however if you use the Bakers Rd bridge to cross the creek there is no formal path on the east side.
Toilets just over the bridge if needed. If you'd like to stop here and explore Coburg Lake, please see our Lake map in the 'More Info' link.
Take the stairs here to get to public toilets and then cut through the park towards Murray Road. Alternatively those with prams may like to take the longer-way round.
Use the pedestrian crossing at Murray Road to cross over to Champ Street where you will see the bluestone walls of Pentridge Prison. Walk south following the wall along Champ Street.
Boot Factory cafe in Pentridge is popular with residents of the new housing development. Continue across Pentridge Boulevard at the pedestrian crossing to Wardens Walk .
Not everyone is a fan of the mix of old and new architectural styles in the Pentridge housing development. But what do you think?
This accredited Farmers' Market only recently moved to this site in mid-2018 from its former home at Coburg North Primary School. Stop here for coffee and fresh produce.
Peppertree Place is another lovely spot to spend some time. As at August 2018 the space was under threat of closure. Coburg community members are rallying to save it.
Tired? Tram back to your starting point. The #19 will take you as far north as Bakers Rd, just a couple of blocks away from Parker Reserve (then walk north along Sydney Rd, then right into Keady St).
If you want to walk back to Parker Reserve, why not go along the Upfield Shared Path which is dotted with guerilla gardening projects as part of the Upfield Urban Forest. See link for more info.
