Description

Find out more

Parking is at the Ferny Creek Recreation Reserve in Ferny Creek. From there walk past the tennis courts to the beginning of the track.

It is clearly sign posted and follows beside Sherbrooke Road for a distance before there is an option to take either route to complete the circuit walk.

If you walk clock-wise, there is less of an incline and some pretty views across the hills. Once you walk down the hill, the Piggery Cafe is on the left and a wonderful spot for lunch or a coffee before completing the walk.
It is dog-friendly though you must have them on a leash, the cafe also allows dogs at the outside tables.

Points of Interest

1. Ferny Creek Reserve

The reserve has ample parking and has the sweetest children's playground with lovely wooden sculptures. Toilets are available near the beginning of the track.

2. Junction of Circular Track

Walk either way to complete the circular section, we like to go clockwise and then pop into the Piggery Cafe (it avoids a longer uphill climb after a snack!)

3. Avenue of Monterey Cypress & Oregon Pine

A lovely section of the walk the trees, the ground covering of pine needles softens the sounds somehow...

4. Entrance to the Burnham Beeches Estate and the Piggery Cafe

At this point, walkers can continue on to walk in the Nicholas Gardens (dogs allowed on lead) or go into the Piggery Cafe before continuing the Tan Track Walk.

5. Walking past the Burnham Beeches Veggie Garden

This uphill section passes the Burnham Beeches organic vegetable gardens with a couple of greenhouses and extensive plantings over the boundary fence.

6. Alpacas and sometimes Emus to be seen!

Alpacas in a small herd and sometimes Emus can be seen over the fence, not something visitors to the Dandenongs expect to see.

7. Pretty views and large old gum trees

Looking back across the Estate towards Kallista the views are pretty, some of the eucalypt trees are really old.
