An easy, scenic walk around the Patterson River in Melbourne's south. This walk is mostly flat and accessible, with some uphill to access bridges.
The Patterson River is a partly man-made urban river of the Port Phillip catchment, located in the south-eastern Greater Melbourne region. It is the shortest river in Victoria at only 5 kilometres in length.
You can access this walk by public transport from Carrum Station, or by car (parking at the station).
The walk is mostly flat, with some uphill sections to get to the bridges on the walk. The path has a granitic surface and you can easily walk or ride it, or take a pram or wheelchair. There are public toilets at the Parks Victoria office, which is passed on the walk (point 3).
The walk is lovely and scenic with views over the Patterson River, and the reedy river banks. You can see boats and various waterbirds on the river, as well as the houses along the river banks on each side, and get a brief view into Runaway Bay, the Patterson Lakes Tidal Waterways.
Note: While there are some shady areas, most of the walk is unshaded.
