Summary

A public-transport friendly walk along a new section of the pretty Diamond Creek trail, from Diamond Creek to Wattle Glen (with a train station at each end).

Description

Explore this pretty section of the Diamond Creek trail with its lovely established gum trees and gurgling creek. Parts of peri-urban Melbourne are yet to be filled in with housing development but you'll get glimpses of the future on this section of the trail!

You can now walk or cycle the Diamond Creek Trail from the Yarra River at Eltham all the way to Hurstbridge, with stops at Diamond Creek and Wattle Glen along the way. The Diamond Creek to Wattle Glen section of shared sealed path opened in March 2021 and the Wattle Glen to Hurstbridge section opened in July 2022.

This 2.5km section of the trail runs from Luscombe Drive in Diamond Creek to Wilson Road in Wattle Glen. The trail consists of a concrete path for walking, running and cycling, and a separate natural surface trail for horse riding.

We've opted to plot this section beginning at the Diamond Creek train station (on the Hurstbridge Line) for those who are not local to the area and do not want to travel by car to explore this trail. We end our walk at Wattle Glen Station (hence the 3.8km total distance).

From Diamond Creek train station navigate your way north to Gipson Street and then continue past the Diamond Creek Outdoor Swimming Pool and you'll find the Trail.

From Diamond Creek it is a 3.5km walk to Wattle Glen station, and this map provides directions to the train station there. Of course now that the newest section of the Trail is open, you could walk all the way along the Diamond Creek Trail to Hurstbridge (a further 3.2km) and catch a train there instead. We'll map that section shortly and link to it from this map!
