Starting and ending at the Paradise Valley Hotel is a great place to get a good feed and get the journey of the the best start. Quickly joining the Menzies Creek walking trail and heading North. There is a lot of gold history in this area, although there are little remnants of the short-lived Emerald Gold Fields. Continuing along the track that was created by the miners to get to their encampment at the now name Butterfield Reserve, which you will pass on your way to Monbulk.
Continuing along the Sassafras Creek reserve will take you to Kallista where the Tea Rooms and the Deli Cafe are great options for a feed. Passing through Kallista you are leaving the Yarra River catchment and entering into the Dandenong Creek catchment as you follow your way through the Dandenong Ranges National Park.
Heading out of Selby you will walk along the spine of Black Hill where there are amazing views to Cardinia Reservoir, the Mornington Peninsular and Western Port.
From Menzies Creek you can follow along side the Puffing Billy tracks, or take the nearby roads back to the Paradise Valley Hotel.
