Participate in a self-guided walk around the Boardwalk Boulevard Wetlands, Point Cook in support of "Walk Against Family Violence" during the 16 Days of Activism Campaign (25 Nov - 10 Dec).
Join people across Victoria to raise awareness and walk in solidarity with victim-survivors of family violence and violence against women, through a local self-guided walk. The walk starts (and concludes) at the Point Cook Community Learning Centre/Library, where information and resources are available for the 16 Days of Activism Campaign that focuses on prevention of gender-based violence.
Organise a group walk, wear orange and share a photo from your walk using #WAFV2022, #WhyWeWalk and #WAFV hashtags on social media.
This route follows concrete paths around the wetlands and includes two flat bridge crossings, dogs on-lead, beware of snakes.
Start: In front of the Point Cook Community Learning Centre/Library, taking in the public artwork that adorns the building and entrance pathway.
Head down along Cheetham Street via the carpark and turn left onto the pathway, leading into the Board Walk Boulevard wetlands. Keep an eye out for the local bird life.
Follow the path around to the right until you come to the path intersection. Take the path to the left, which will cross over parts of the wetlands. As you cross, take a moment to look over both sides of the wetlands, with seating available to relax and take in the serenity.
There are gorgeous plants that follow the path, with large gum trees and native grasses. Reaching the end of the path, turn left and follow the footpath along Central Park Ave. As you walk you may notice a bird box in the tree and Purple Swamphen's gathering in the area.
Just before you reach the bend veer to your left along the path, which will again cross over the wetlands. To your right you will see a playground. Continue along the path, taking in views from both sides. As you exit out of the wetlands take the path that veers to the right and follow the path along the side of the Point Cook Library. Public artwork is featured along here.
End your walk by visiting the Point Cook Community Learning Centre and Library and viewing the 16 days of Activism / Respect Is materials and books. Mention participating in this walk to staff and / or take a photo in front of the campaign stand to upload to social media.
