This walk was named Birrarung after its strong connection to water. The Wurundjeri people consider water to be a connection to creation and community.

Start at Poyner Reserve at the wayfinding sign. Read about Aunty Kim Wandin and Chris Joy's inspiration for Bour-deet.

Use the QR codes to access the Wurundjeri Wandoon story of Bundjil and read about the historical significance of the area.

Make your way around Poyner Reserve and spend some time at the sculpture Bour-deet. Can you remember all the uses of the plant. If you look closely, sometimes you can see Bour-deet in the waterway beside the sculpture.

Exit Poyner Reserve and make your way east along Beresford Rd. Cross the small bridge and find yourself the start of the Warburton Rail Trail. Fill up your drink bottle and continue through the green park with the Olinda Creek to your right.

Continue on through a small car park and enter Melba Park . This park is a lovely, family friendly park with seating, playgrounds, BBQ facilities and toilets.

Exit Melba Park through the stone gates and walk up the hill to Main St via Clarke St. Turn left onto Main St towards the pedestrian crossing. Safely cross the road to the opposite shopping strip.

Turn left onto Clarke Street then make a right onto John St. Cross at the pedestrian crossing to enter the reserve. Follow the path past the Lilydale Skate Park and continue on to Lillydale Lake

Lillydale Lake is a playground for all. To extend this walk, you could walk the 2.65km around the lake and enjoy a range of outdoor and aquatic activities. Take along your dog for some exercise in the designated off-leash areas or have a BBQ. Toilet facilities are available.

This walk is categorised as Easy - Intermediate due to the change in ground surface and some elevations.

5. Lillydale Lake

Take your time to enjoy this beautiful lake. Featuring a highly popular walking trail, off leash dog area, all ability playgrounds, BBQ facilities and toilet amenities.
