This lovely garden has smooth, wide paths that take you to interesting places. You can see the war memorial, the ducks on the lake, or children at play. There are accessible BBQ and picnic shelters.

Is this walk accessible for me?
This walk is accessible for everyone. It is easy by foot, wheelchair or using other mobility aids.

What can I see?
Cross the lake on a bridge. View works of art. Enjoy many large trees. The accessible playground is popular. An accessible War Memorial and walk are special.

How accessible is the path?
Paths are sealed, smooth, wide and flat with room for wheelchair turning. Most paths make side by side travel easy. The bridge surface is wide with safety rails.

There are alternative shorter routes. Pick up locations can be at either car park. Mobile coverage is good.

The park is well maintained. Note: the section below the lake where ducks gather may have slippery droppings.

There may be small lips between different path surfaces. Water pools in a few places when wet. There are areas of uneven and soft ground beside some paths with small drop offs. The grate at the bridge rest area makes moving a push wheelchair difficult. Cyclists may share some paths.

Rest areas
There are many shady trees and shelters as well as frequent seating with armrests.

Accessible BBQs and picnic shelters are available. A short grass crossing is required. Bins are provided.

1 touch button accessible water fountain including dog bowl is provided. Bubbler fountains are also present. Carry a water bottle.

There is no café or shop nearby.

There are 2 accessible toilets (see photo).

Dogs
Dogs must be on leash.

Parking
Off street accessible spaces are available. 3 within the park off Dorset Road and 2 in the service road off Francis Crescent. There are protected side zones and is room for rear loading. Surfaces are sealed, firm and wide. Francis Crescent is on a minor slope.

No walking through car parks or road crossing is required.

Public Transport
Find bus stops at the corner of the park on Francis Crescent and Dorset Road. Both back on to service roads with sealed footpaths to the walk. There are traffic lights for crossing Dorset Road. Some kerbs are not ramped or ramps are sloped at an angle which may be difficult for wheelchairs.

Both stops offer shelter, seating and passenger information.
Note: Dorset Road is busy.

Taxis may be accessed from nearby Boronia or Ferntree Gully Railway Stations.

Points of Interest

1. Dorset Road accessible parking

There are 3 off street accessible spaces within the park at the start of the walk. There is a no parking side zone in between this pair. The other is beside the toilet block. There are no kerbs.

2. An accessible War Memorial

Dedicated to Knox residents who have died in war, this memorial has roll in roll out ramps. There are also interesting accessible signs, photographs and a pond. .

3. Accessible water fountain

There is only 1 accessible water fountain - near the playground. It has touch operated buttons that work well. There was a pooled water at the base. There are 2 bubbler fountains. Carry a bottle.

4. Accessible toilets

The accessible toilets are spacious and looked clean. Doors open outward, which meant assistance was required to enter for a wheelchair. Door width is 0.88 metres, floor area is 2.85x1.9 metres.

5. Accessible playground

The large playground has wide paths. Signs in Braille and Auslan are included.

6. Direction signs

There are not many signs pointing the way around the park. However, you can see the boundaries much of the time.

7. Lakeside edge

The paths are generally wide, smooth and flat. Coming around this corner you meet the sloping lake edge. Take care.

8. Seating

There is frequent seating with arm rests. These are connected to the path throughout the park. Here there is room for a wheelchair to park beside the seat.

9. No connecting path

The accessible BBQ and picnic shelters are wonderful. However, they are surrounded by grass without accessible paths across it.

10. Accessible BBQ and picnic shelters

Roll under tables and BBQs are provided on a smooth concrete base with room for wheelchair turning. A large rotunda can accomodate community groups.

11. Francis Crescent accessible parking

There are 2 accessible spaces with a protected side area in Francis Crescent. Alternative pick ups can be arranged here. Mobile coverage is good.

12. Textured path and deep scoop drain

This path is a work of art. The deep scoop drain beside it meant we left it off this walking and rolling map. If you do choose to roll along here take care.

13. A sculpted shelter

This shelter roof by the lake creates patterns that move with the sun. The ducks love it too. There are many friendly ducks. Duck poo is regularly cleaned from the path. Remember it can be slippery.

14. Amphitheatre entry

This tiled circular art work marks the entry to a large open air amphitheatre. The artwork has a small lip. There are some loose pavers on the left side edge.

15. Shade

There are many large trees providing shade across lawns and the path. There are also several shelters.

16. A change in surface

It is common to have small lips where different path surfaces meet. This is the case at the southern approach to the bridge.

17. The bridge

A firm, wide path with safety rails makes for an accessible and easy crossing of the lake.

18. Bridge rest area

The bridge rest area has a grate with gaps wide enough to make pushing this wheelchair a bit difficult.

19. Sarah's Walk

This accessible path through a pretty internal garden is a creative memorial to a 14 year old Knox resident. Sarah lost her life at Port Arthur

20. Avenue of Remembrance

This avenue is for walking or rolling while thinking on the costs of war. The path is a World War One bronze timeline of battle locations and dates.

21. Bus stops

Route 755 stops by the gardens. There are shelters seats and passenger information. Both stops are between roads and service roads. Dorset Rd has traffic lights. Kerb crossings are poorly positioned.
