Description

Find out more

Don't simply pass through the small beach top town of Kilcunda! You will be missing a walk with fantastic views of spectacular local beaches as well as across Bass Strait to Phillip Island.

This 60 - 90 minute walk travels Kilcunda Coastal Reserve to the historic Bourne Creek Trestle Railway Bridge where it meets Kilcunda Surf Beach, then above and along Kilcunda and Shelley Beaches and back . The bluffs are rugged weather beaten promontories covered in tough coastal vegetation. All beaches have sandy expanses at low tide. There are extensive rocky platforms that are fascinating to explore. The beaches are popular with surf fishers. Note: high tide may cover the whole beach. Swimming at these beaches is risky.

The path begins by following the Bass Coast Rail Trail before joining up with the George Bass Coastal Walk and returning via the beachfronts. If this length isn't enough for you there is plenty more nearby walking that can be done! See the "Other walks .... " links below.

The route is either compacted granitic sand, grassy ways or sandy underfoot. Seats are provided at intervals. There are also boardwalks and steps.

Kilcunda Foreshore Reserve provides picnic tables, a BBQ shelter, drinking water, information signage, a playground and public toilets. There is a Hotel and store opposite on Bass Highway for refreshment.

Dogs are permitted on leash at all times on Kilcunda Beaches. A designated off leash area is available in front go the Kilcunda Beach Caravan Park.

Car parking
The walk starts at the Kilcunda Foreshore Reserve car park. It has plenty of room.

Cyclists share the Bass Coast Rail Trail.
