Description
A beautiful little walk that has a bit of everything: sand dunes, lake edge, views, beach and finishes off with a giant slide.
"The “lake” is part of an extensive wetland system formed from the meeting of the Shaw and Eumeralla Rivers. The barrier estuary system is periodically closed to the sea by a sand bar. The wetlands comprise of freshwater meadows and semi permanent saline marshes, which have extensive areas of reeds and salt marsh communities fringing the edges.
Lake Yambuk estuary and wetlands are listed under the Directory of Important Wetlands for their flora and fauna value. The lake provides an important habitat for many bird species including the threatened Lewin’s Rail, Dwarf Galaxias and the endangered Orange Bellied Parrot."

1. Jetty
A small, floating jetty at the start of the walk.
2. Playground
There is a playground and nearby "accessible" public toilets (the path to the toilets is not very accessible, it is narrow and has a lip that might be difficult for some wheelchair users).
3. Sandy path
Keepan eye out for lizards and echidnas on the sandy path.
4. Waters edge
You can get down to the water's edge at a couple of points, although there is a bit of vegetation to negotiate.
5. Viewing platform
A nice view of the Lake/river entrance at a small viewing platform.
6. Seat
A seat to sire and ponder at the path crossroads (to the beach).
7. Looking back
Looking back along the track towards the start and the slide.
8. Lake mouth
Walk along the beach to the mouth of the lake that periodically opens after heavy rain.
9. Up the beach
lIf you can, take some time to walk along the beach. Look out for seals that sometimes visit from the colony on Deen Mar.
10. View to Deen Mar
Deen Maar (Lady Julia Percy) Island was formed some seven million years ago, and is a culturally significant site and special place to Eastern Maar and Gunditjmara peoples.
11. Panoramic views
Climb the stairs to the viewing platform and be rewarded wiht panoramic views up the lake, out to sea and along the beach.
12. Slide
Climb the steps to whirl down the 33- metre giant beach slide at Yambuk Lake, what a unique and great way to finish a walk!
