Getting to the trail:
The Hastings to Jacks Beach trail is a 5-minute drive or 30-minute walk from the town centre.
For those driving, a small car park is available at the beginning of the walk (opposite 38 Salmon St).
Undertaking the trail:
The 7km trail (3.5km each way) takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete. It is open all year round and free for hikers and cyclists to use!
The trail begins at Hastings Foreshore. As you embark on the trail, the rich biodiversity becomes immediately apparent. The wetlands are teeming with fauna such as swans and crabs, making it a perfect spot for animal lovers. As you approach Jacks Beach, the vegetation transitions to coastal scrub, giving the trail a slightly more rugged feel, but it remains easy to navigate. Once at Jacks Beach, you may turn around and head back towards Hastings.
The walk is well-maintained and mostly flat therefore suitable for almost all ages and abilities. Do however watch out for some rocky and muddy sections.
There are several benches scattered throughout the walk for when a rest break is needed; these are also the perfect spots to take in the breathtaking surroundings! However, no toilets or shelters are available throughout the trail, so make sure to plan accordingly.
Dogs are not allowed on this trail so also make sure to leave them at home.
