Description

Find out more

Walk, roll and enjoy the beauty of the Red Gum lined Murray River. Keep an eye open for wildlife and learn about Indigenous culture along the way. Wodonga’s Gateway Village is home to local arts and hospitality.

This return path follows the river. There are occasional map and direction signs. The path is sealed concrete wide enough for side-by-side travel, wheelchair turning and passing. Slopes are gentle and without steps. There is a short section with mild camber at the northwest corner of the lagoon below Lincoln Causeway.

There are occasional tree root rises, cracks and lips. Most have been ground down or patched. Path edges drop off to grass, dirt, water or embankments without safety rails.

The old railway bridge marks the return point of the walk. Alternative vehicle access points for organising shorter walks are not available. Mobile coverage is good.

The Murray River occasionally floods the path.

Cyclists may share pathways.

Rest areas
The path and verges are cleared. There is tree shade from large Red Gums. There are seats with back and arms rests along the walk. These are on concrete based island settings with high lips. There are some public art and information signs installed. Not all are accessible.

Gateway Village offers food and drink services connected to the walk (check opening hours) including outside tables and bins. There is an old picnic table at the southern end of the walk.

No accessible drinking water fountains were found. Carry water.

The Gateway Village has an accessible toilet.

Dogs should be leashed.

Public transport
Buses travel between Albury and Wodonga. Buses 150 and 160 stop at Gateway Village. Passengers alight to a paved footpath. There is passenger information, but no seating or shelter.

Parking
There is 1 accessible space in the Gateway Village car park with protected side space and rear loading to a sealed flat surface and another 2 on the service road. The latter have no protected space to side or rear. There are better located public parking spaces than these.
