Summary

Explore open plains, cultural scarred trees, and abundant wildlife on this 9km walk to Woodlands Homestead—easy terrain, rich history, and nature at its best.

Description

This approx 9km km walk begins at the Somerton Road entrance in Greenvale and follows the Murrup Gurrong Yan (Spiritual Creek Walk) circuit before continuing on to the Woodlands Historic Homestead. The route takes in open grassy plains, a sugar gum plantation, and areas rich in cultural history, including scarred trees left by the Wurundjeri people. Wildlife is abundant, with kangaroos, echidnas, kookaburras, and many native bird species often seen along the way.

The terrain is mostly flat to gently undulating, with no major climbs, making it accessible for most walkers. Paths are a mix of formed tracks and open ground, suited to a steady group pace. While the park feels bushland in character, it is adjacent to Melbourne Airport, so expect regular low-flying planes overhead.
