Enjoy a lovely shaded walk along the Yarra in this part of the lush and peaceful Warrandyte State Park.

Description

There are three walks that you can do in this part of the Warrandyte State Park - Black Flat Walk, Blue Tongue Bend and the Jumping Creek Nature Trail (see link above for Jumping Creek Nature Trail, which also gives you an idea of the flora and fauna in the area).

The walks are clearly sign-posted along the way. If you're taking the Blue Tongue Bend route, simply follow the dirt track to the right of the picnic area.

The dirt track takes you along the river, where you can dip your toes in the water (or go canoeing/kayaking).

The direct track itself is easy to follow and has a few steep sections. It can be a little muddy and slippery if walking after recent rains or in otherwise damp conditions so make sure you have appropriate footwear.

You can either return by retracing your steps, or taking the vehicle track (a shorter route but less scenic, also has steep sections).

The picnic ground is gorgeous, with barbeques, firewood and toilets.

1. Map and information

Start off by having a look at the information board to orientate yourself. There are public toilets, barbeque and picnic tables here.

2. Yarra River

Yarra River is a great spot for a dip on a warm day. You'll be sharing the river with the ducks and other bird life! You can launch your canoes from here.

3. Begin Blue Tongue Bend Walk

Marker for the start of the Blue Tongue Bend Walk. Only a couple of kilometres of blissful bushland to wander through.

4. Bushy goodness

Take a sniff or two of the fresh air around you.

5. River view

You'll be able to glimpse the river from the track at various sections.

6. Wild mushrooms tour

Q: Did you hear the joke about the fungus? A: I could tell it to you, but it might need time to grow on you.

7. More mushies

Q: Why did the Fungi leave the party? A: There wasn't mushroom.

8. A darker variety

Q: Why did the Mushroom get invited to all the parties? A: 'Cos he's a fungi!

9. Stuck on you

Ok, I've run out of fungi jokes. This one's the biggest that I came across during the walk.

10. Dappled sunlight through the forest

A perfect location to practice your camera taking skills, or simply enjoy the light and shadows.

11. Slightly steep sections

There are occasional uphills and downhills on the track, perfectly manageable - just distract yourself with the scenery while you make your way up.

12. Last view of mushrooms

Group of fungi last seen making their own stairway to heaven.
