Summary

Mulana nin iyoga (Yorta Yorta for 'Spirit of the Stone') is a 2.3km walking trail (4.6km return) on the northern side of Mount Major.

Description

This walk offers lovely views to the north and west as you move up the slope to the head of a gully. From this point the walk continues on through a yellow box woodland to the summit.

You can then continue across the plateau to a directional cairn on the southern side, which offers views of Dookie Agricultural College and the ranges to the south and east. Interpretive signs along the trail provide an insight into the area's rich cultural history.

The trail passes through parts of a working Sheep Farm so please do not bring dogs onto the trail. The walk is quite rocky and steep in places, so watch your step, and in the warmer months keep an eye out for snakes.

The trail, opened in 2020, was a project supported by the GBCMA Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority, Yorta Yorta National Aboriginal Corporation, Greater Shepparton City Council and the University of Melbourne (Dookie Campus) through funding from the Australian Government and Greater Shepparton City Council.

A number of television and mobile phone signal stations.

4. Mt Major viewpoint

Magnificent views including canola fields in spring. Vineyards are scattered throughout the area and there are excellent views of Strathbogie and surrounding ranges from the summit.

5. Mt Major Walk

Here walkers have the option to retrace their steps back to the carpark, or to continue down the Mt Major Access Road to the other side of Mt Major - click on link for that walk description.
