Summary

The walk was pleasant and easy with everyone although we ran out of time and couldn't reach our full destination. On the walk we discovered plenty of positives and negatives.

Description

We first started at the MSS kiss 'n ride and then worked our way up London Drive. Then we continued on to Sunhill Street, then onto Gloucester Avenue, until we reached the local shops. After walking past the shops, we kept on traveling until we got to the public oval which is called Davey oval. The oval contains a sports shed, a rubbish bin, and a doggy poo bag disposer. We then came to a set of traffic lights on Smith Road, which we had to cross to continue to our journey. Once we got to the next set of lights, Mr Jones realised that it was getting late. This meant that we couldn't go on any further, so we crossed the road and made our way back to school. As we were walking back to school, we passed Salisbury East High School and then past our middle school gates. We then reached the junior/middle school kiss 'n' ride and made our back to the class room to write down our notes.

The poo bags are very useful because if your dog happens do to a poo at the park, the council has provided bags if you forget to bring your own. this is a great system to have for the public.

2. Recreation facilities

The oval and equipment are a entertainment benefit, which allows kids and adults to play with a ball or with their dog. The council have placed this to allow people to occupy themselves and have fun.

To ensure the safety of the students from both Salisbury high and Tyndale Christian school, the council has placed a speed limit to prevent the chances of someone having a car crash.

4. Light post for recreation use

A light post on a sporting field is great because people may want to play at night but can't because there is no light, so a light post is very helpful.

5. Location sign

The sign tells people where to go and gives information of where things are. These signs are helpful if people don't know where they are going. It also helps drivers to know which way they are going.

6. Intersection trafic lights

To ensure the safety of people driving with children or by themselves, the council has placed a set of lights to prevent a car crash. It also helps students and people that need to cross the road.

7. Public rubbish bin

The rubbish bin comes in handy when people need to dispose of their garbage or their dogs business. Another good thing is that the rubbish bin is in an area where lots of people gather.

8. Pedestrian crossing lights

The pedestrian lights are a hazard because the time limit that is set is way to fast, meaning not everyone can get to the other side on time. This could lead to someone getting hit by a car.

9. Graffiti

Graffiti is a common vandalism, even though it doesn't do any harm to anyone it's a sign of disrespect. Graffiti is vandalizing someone else's property without their permission.

10. Bus stop

The good thing about the bus stop is that it contains a safety barrier so students don't run onto the road and it also helps the students to be lined up and ready to get onto the bus.

11. No zebra crossing

There is no zebra crossing for people and students to cross making it a hazard for when cars are trying to exit and enter the school grounds. There should be a crossing for the safety of the students.

12. Light post

The light posts provides light for people that are walking around at night time. It's also good for when people are coming home late from work or are just getting back from a late night walk.

13. Cracked foot path

It's a hazard because the path has cracks and isn't leveled. This is especially unsafe for prams that contain babies, as well as disabled people. The foot path is used a lot by people and students.

14. Local shops

The shops are helpful for people that may not want to go to a major shop cause they may just need a little thing or just want something to snack on. It's great to have local shops in your area

15. Hazard in the shops

The shops are very helpful although they aren't good looking. The shops are old and don't have much effort in their design. They need an upgrade to make the area look more pleasant and attractive.

16. The shops car park

The car parks are a hazard because there are lot of pot holes and dips which aren't very safe for drivers. The lines where the cars park, aren't very clear so most people just park wherever they like!

17. Telephone booth

A telephone booth can come in very handy because people may not have a mobile phone or a home phone. They can use the telephone booth to call someone if they don't have a phone of their own.

18. Broken screens at the bus stop

These broken screens are a problem because the sun can get through these gaps on a sunny day, which will cause people to get very hot and bothered. The screens might also be sharp which isn't good.

19. Footpath missing

The footpath that is missing is a hazard because the dirt can become mud in winter and people can also trip over the remaining footpath because the footpath and ground are on different levels.
