The Victoria State Rose Garden, the jewel of the west, is a public garden managed by Parks Victoria and looked after by volunteers of the rose garden. It has over 5500 roses, 600 types of roses in about six acres of garden.

The garden beds are surrounded by wide paths . The main bed is a tudor rose shape with paths leading to all the areas. The roses continue over the mound to a David Austin Bud of roses and then a large leaf shape with Australian bred roses. Along the fence without a path is the heritage border.

You can walk it easily quickly or slowly and you can continue the walk through the garden to the Werribee Park and onwards through to the sculpture park and to the orchard. You could also extend this to walk the Werribee River Walk. Its a beautiful peaceful part of the world and worth a visit and a walk.

The garden part with its paths is wheelchair friendly with public toilets also available in the picnic area to theleft of the carpark. Best time to see the rose garden is from November (peak) to late March/April. The volunteers deadhead and prune through out the year to keep the roses in flower. See the website for more details and how to get there. Entry into the garden is a new big corten steel arch visible from the carpark.

Entry is free . This walk is also accessible by public transport. Simply catch a train to Werribee station. From there, bus 439 will take you all the way to Werribee Park and the Victoria State Rose Garden , also to the zoo. The paths in the rose garden are wide with compacted course sand/gravel which are great for walking, prams and also wheelchairs,
