This is a walk we completed as a part of our Mentone Fieldwork, to see what the local people thought of Mentone's walkability.
Our class went on a walk to Mentone's as a part of our project to survey people about Mentone's walkability. During class times in groups of four, we created around fifteen questions for our surveys and each group member was responsible for surveying five members of the public. Our teachers gave us an audit, which we completed ourselves about the walkability, aesthetics and safety of Mentone. Everyone we surveyed agreed that the footpaths outside the strip of shops needed to be resurfaced. Also a common recurring point was that Mentone train station is too busy after school because of all the students who had busses and trains to catch. One older person we asked felt unsafe walking through Mentone outside of school hours because of the uneven surface and the overcrowded footpaths.`
Generally speaking, most people wanted to see a change in the appearance of Mentone, more greenery and tidy footpaths. There was enough seating for older people, but a lack of space for students and many people were in agreeance that Mentone train station needed to be moved underground, and the bus stops off of the Como Parade.
