- Leave the Cairns Botanic Gardens on Collins Street and turn L
- Continue past the Wild Bean Cafe and the Tanks Arts Centre
- Cross over the railway crossing and turn right onto Sheridan St
- Continue walking until you reach the Australian Red Cross Blood Service Donor Centre, opposite Tobruk Pools
- Cross over the road (Sheridan St) towards Tobruk pools and turn RIGHT
- Turn LEFT onto Lily St
- Continue down Lily St, crossing over the roundabout and walk onto the cycle/walking path taking the path around onto the Esplanade
- With an open grassy area to your left and apartments to your right, you will see a path leading to the LEFT taking you down to the sea
- Follow the path round to the RIGHT and continue past the volleyball courts, Muddy's Playground and cafe onto the boardwalk
- Follow the boardwalk until you reach the lagoon
