Description
- Leave the Cairns Botanic Gardens on Collins Street and turn L
- Continue past the Wild Bean Cafe and the Tanks Arts Centre
- Cross over the railway crossing and turn right onto Sheridan St
- Continue walking until you reach the Australian Red Cross Blood Service Donor Centre, opposite Tobruk Pools
- Cross over the road (Sheridan St) towards Tobruk pools and turn RIGHT
- Turn LEFT onto Lily St
- Continue down Lily St, crossing over the roundabout and walk onto the cycle/walking path taking the path around onto the Esplanade
- With an open grassy area to your left and apartments to your right, you will see a path leading to the LEFT taking you down to the sea
- Follow the path round to the RIGHT and continue past the volleyball courts, Muddy's Playground and cafe onto the boardwalk
- Follow the boardwalk until you reach the lagoon

2. Tanks Arts Centre
The Tanks Art Centre is an iconic and innovative multi-use, contemporary arts facility housed in three converted World War 2 naval oil storage tanks, and set amidst a lush rainforest backdrop
3. Tobruk Memorial Pool
The recently redeveloped Tobruk Memorial Pool offers a competition pool, two 25m heated pools, a FlowRider and toddler splash pool. Great facilities if you want to cool off!

Your first proper view of the bay looking east towards Yarrabah and the mouth of Chinaman Creek.
5. Pelican and waterbirds along the Esplanade
The beach is mostly mud, caused by the effects of dredging the harbour which has allowed areas of mangrove to grow and provides a great site for migrant shorebirds from the northern hemisphere.
6. Public art on the Esplanade
There are many artworks located along the Cairns Esplanade parklands and around the Lagoon.
7. Muddy's Cafe & Playground
Muddy's Cafe has a great view and coffee. The playground next door, is a fun, safe, splash playground with active, passive, interactive and educational facilities with a combination of play equipment.
8. Cairns Cenotaph & Memorial
Cairns Cenotaph and Memorial site is a place of cultural and historic significance for the Cairns community.
9. Cairns Esplanade Olympic Torch Monument
This granite monument commemorates the 1956 Olympic Torch Relay run between Cairns and Melbourne.
10. Cairns Esplanade Lagoon
The Lagoon is a 4800 sq/m salt-water swimming facility offering safe, all-year round, swimming free from stingers and crocodiles. Beautifully designed and safe for kids.
