This fabulous short walk is around the artificially constructed lake on Hamelin Station. Over 100 bird species have been seen around the lake and Homestead, including Chiming Wedgebills, White-winged Fairy-wrens, Black-eared Cuckoos, Pelicans and various honeyeaters.
Wildlife in the area includes kangaroos, emus and goannas.
"Hamelin Station is a 202,000 hectare property, situated on 32 kilometres of coast line and bordering the Shark Bay World Heritage area. In March 2015 Bush Heritage Australia acquired Hamelin Station Reserve. It is an area of outstanding conservation value, located in the mid-west region of Western Australia. The reserve extends the protection of the Shark Bay World Heritage Area by a substantial 10%. It also helps to protect Hamelin Pool, one of the only two places in the world where living marine stromatolites are known to occur".

Hamelin Station is owned by Bush Heritage Australia which is "a National Non-Government Conservation organisation that thru the generous donations of its supporters across Australia and the world works to protect Australia’s unique biodiversity and natural landscapes, visit www.bushheritage.org.au for more information on Bush Heritage."
You are able to stay at Hamelin Station (we did and it was wonderful) if you want to "Immerse yourself in the Shark Bay outback experience in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. Hamelin Station offers guests two options: the historic shearers quarters, rustic on the outside, cleanly modern on the inside; or a range of appealing sites for caravans and campers in beautiful bush settings, separated by nature corridors and with two fire pits.
The communal shearers kitchen is large, modern, well equipped and maintained, with a dining area, large stone fireplace, and an extensive covered barbecue area for those sunset drinks and meals. A second camp kitchen features gas burners and barbecue, hot and cold water, tables and chairs. The large modern shower, toilet and laundry facilities, with disabled access, are cleaned and maintained to the highest standards."
NOTE: Hamelin Station is closed for the hot months over Summer, best to check the link above to make sure it is open.

The short path from the Station to the lake.
Lots of wildflowers in Spring that seem to pop up out of nowhere.
Up to the gate to get to the lake path.
Not sure how many species of birds there are, but they are wonderful to watch.
If you are staying at the Homestead the Lake is great to visit at different times of the day . It always seems a little different.
The path meanders about half way around the lake.
The path gets pretty rough to non existent from here so you might want turn back (we didn't).
You can get back to the waters edge here to look across to the Homestead.
Its not really a path here so watch you step and look out for snakes (we didn't see any though).
Nice stretch of lake bank.
Be prepared to jump across this small channel.
It's not pretty but the old farm machinery lying around is very interesting.
