Summary

A short walk through a wildlife protection fence to a trickle of a tributary of the Moonee Pond Creek through the Back Paddock of Woodlands Historic Park

Description

Find out more

Start at the Woodlands Historic Park car park off Providence Road (just before the road block). There is an access road to the wildlife fence (with pedestrian access). The conservation zone to the right.

You then come to Woodlands Historic Park with the double fence surrounding the Back Block to protect the Eastern Barred Bandicoot. There is a gate through the double fence which must be carefully closed behind you. Several track options are available from here.

Given my plan to walk all the tributaries of the Yarra, I made for what seems to be the only walkable stretch of Greenvale Creek, a little tributary of Moonee Ponds Creek. You can then continue to the Woodlands Historic Homestead or Gellibrand Hill for the view, or return the way you came.

NOTE: Strictly no dogs allowed on any part of this walk

2. A magnificent occupant of Weeroona

There are many dead eucalyptus in the area; none more magnificent than this, appropriately just inside the cemetery.

4. Bandicoot protection

The gate looks rather intimidating but works well. Remember to make sure it has closed as you go through. No dogs are other pets allowed!

5. Some more choices here

Turn right to reach Greenvale Creek.

6. Greenvale Creek

More a trickle than a creek in summer at least

7. Woodlands Park vegetation

Typical vegetation in this part of the Park, with an old surviving guardian by the dry creek bed.

8. Creek crossing

From this crossing, with its view of the consequences of erosion, the path moves away from the creek course towards the Homestead. Another path goes towards Gellibrands Hill lookout.
