A tram ride followed by a walk to visit some iconic St Kilda landmarks and learn the stories of the people behind those places
This trail has been developed by Bunk Buddy Tours’
The Gatwick, Luna Park, St Kilda Festival and The Espy – the places and their names may be familiar, but how many of us really know the stories of the personalities behind these landmarks?
Join Bunk Buddy Tours on the Personalities of St Kilda tour, a unique walking tour which encapsulates the infectious vibe from a mix of cultures through its vibrant personalities, flamboyant artists & artisans, talented musicians & craftsmen, world renowned hospitality professionals, cultured curators & custodians, nurturers & entrepreneurs including key visionary leaders & rebellious trailblazers. Let us share with you our favourite personalities & their stories. All who have in some way, moulded and forged St Kilda into what we know it as today...
The Personalities of St Kilda tours first stop is at 42 Fitzroy Street (zoom out on the above map to view the 'point of interest' marker), just across the road from tram stop #133.
Starting the tour at this location allows you to hear about the personalities behind Tolarno’s and the historic Gatwick Hotel.
From here you board the #96 tram and head to Acland Street where the walking commences. Hear stories of the personalities behind iconic locations as visit the following St Kilda landmarks:
• Monarch Cakes
• Luna Park
• Palais Theatre
• St Kilda Festival
• St Kilda Sea Baths
• St Kilda Esplanade Markets
• The Espy
Most of the route is paved, though you are welcome to get sand between your toes during the warmer months when walking along the St Kilda foreshore. And while a predominately flat/level ground walk, there is a short incline on the walking route between the St Kilda Baths and St Kilda Esplanade Market stops; if the incline is too steep then you can take a slightly longer route to The Esplande and you won't miss any stops on the walk.
We advise the walk will take longer than time suggested due to the tram ride between stops 1 & 2, and because we all love to stop, look, walk around and take photos along the way – maybe even partake in a little bit of shopping as we stroll past the cake shops on Acland St.
