A great place to stop if you are travelling down the beautiful Esperance Coast Road.
This little bay on the Huon river has beautiful views, a small, sandy beach, with rocks to clamber over, and views take in the Huon River, Bruny Island and Cygnet Inlet. The walk is short, and the rock-hop out to the point is best attempted at low tide. Be careful as the rocks can be slippery. There is excellent fishing and foraging here, but be aware of seasons and conditions and you may need a licence. Tas Parks and Wildlife
If you are travelling south from Hobart, take the Esperance Coast Road as an alternative to the Huon Highway. This road has appeal similar to the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. Turning off the Huon Hwy at Surges Bay, the road winds it's way along the river and offers some spectacular views and a couple of good places to stop to breathe in the serenity. You can pick up a treat at the Huon Salmon Farm Shop on your way through to Dover, where the road rejoins the Hwy. You can also stop at Surges Bay, Surveyors Bay and Big Roaring Beach.

This lovely little beach is a great place to stretch your legs, walk the dog, or have a cup of tea.
It was the middle of winter when we visited and the seaweed on the beach was still frosty.
Climb over the rocks at low tide and enjoy the views up and down the river. Be careful as the rocks can be loose and slippery.
A view looking towards Mt Cygnet with some salmon farming ponds.
The reverse view.
Amazing multi-coloured lichen on the rocks.
You can forage for oysters, mussels and samphire here. You will need the right equipment, and avoid collecting shellfish after heavy rain as the river gets the run-off and can get turbid.
An important part of the eco-system.
