Situated at the base of the forested slopes of Mt Granya, this satisfying return walk is a nice outing to combine with a picnic either at Cotton Tree campground or the historic Scout Hut.
Mt Granya State Park is 6,140ha of pristine forest and steep slopes rising high above Lake Hume. Walking in the forest is enjoyable at any time. Granya Falls add a seasonal bonus as they attractively spill into a rocky gully at the bottom of the mountain. The falls are best visited in winter and spring to guarantee a water flow. Spring also sees diverse wildflower displays.
On the way to the falls is an interesting Scout Hut made of logs dating from 1937. It was constructed by the Granya Scout Group. The walking is very agreeable and easy to the Scout Hut. It is a pleasant destination in its own right. For those less steady on their feet it might be a good place to consider resting to await those who can manage better the uneven trail ahead to the falls.
The State Park has had over 110 species of birds recorded, so make sure you keep your eyes and ears open.
The walk begins along a smooth, broad dirt track that progressively narrows and gets rockier as you move up the gully. It is quite short, but may not suit those unsteady on their feet.
Cotton Tree campground offers information signage, free camping, a picnic table, fire pit and long drop toilet.
Be prepared for independent walking. Always carry food, water, first aid and be Sun Smart.
Pets are not permitted in State Parks.
If you wish to go further, Mt Granya summit can also be walked to from Cotton Tree Campground. There is a n11 kilometre return walking track (for experienced walkers only).

The campground marks the start of the walk. Car parking, camping, a fire pit, picnic table and information sign are provided.
When you exit Cotton Tree campground you follow a dirt road for a short distance.
Look out for the directional sign where the dirt track forks with a management track. Walk past the gate onto the management track.
The toilet is a short distance past the management track. It is set back on the left of the dirt road.
The management track makes for easy and pleasant walking to the Scout Hut.
Built in 1937 by the Granya Scout Group, this log hut still looks solid today. It is a good picnic and resting spot for those who can't safely walk up the uneven last 300m to the falls.
Beyond the Scout Hut the track narrows and heads up the slope beside the gully. The beginning of the narrow section has a directional sign.
As you get closer to the falls view at the top of the gully the slope gets rockier. Trail markers have been placed along the track beyond the Scout Hut.
