Is this walk accessible for me?
This walk is accessible for everyone. It is easy by foot, by wheelchair or other mobility aids.

What can I see?
You will visit a large green park of grass and native bushland. You will see a lake and water birds swimming or flying overhead.

How accessible is the path?
Paths are sealed or compacted gravel, firm, wide and smooth. Wheelchairs can turn. There is a mild slope near the lake. Mobile coverage is good. An information shelter has a bench seat, map and information.

There is a small sloping concrete footbridge. There are uneven areas beside the path. The only steps are to the lake beach.

Cyclists may share this path.

Rest areas
The walk has shady trees and two large picnic shelters. One is connected to the walk by gravel paths and the other is across grass. There is room for wheelchairs inside. The path is more exposed to the weather as you approach the lake.

Picnic tables provide most seating (not roll under). Bench seats are found by the lake. Few seats have armrests.

There is a playground with a Liberty Swing for wheelchair users. The rest of the playground is not accessible.

Older style BBQs are on concrete pads. Some are connected to the walk by compacted gravel paths. Lips may be present between different path surfaces.

There are no bins - take your rubbish home with you.

There are no modern accessible water fountains. It is best to carry a water bottle. There is nowhere to purchase refreshments in this part of the park.

Toilets
There is one accessible toilet. It has an electric hand dryer, folding baby change table, basin and toilet with hand rails. It is not a modern bathroom. Short, sealed, moderately sloping paths access the toilet.

Dogs
Dogs must be on a leash.

Parking
The one car park for this walk is inside the park. Surfaces are generally sealed, smooth and mildly sloping toward the path.

Several pairs of accessible spaces are provided with "No Parking" areas between them. These have kerb less access to the walk via wide sealed footpaths.

Buses
There is no accessible pathway to buses on Ferntree Gully Road.

Points of Interest

1. Accessible parking

There are pairs of accessible spaces next to the path on sealed, smooth surfaces. They have a "No parking" space between them. Connecting paths to the walk are smooth, sealed and wide.

2. BBQ and Liberty Swing

BBQs are an older style on a concrete base. Some are connected to the walk by compacted gravel paths. Watch for lips between surfaces. There is a wheelchair Liberty Swing in the nearby playground.

3. Picnic shelter

This large picnic shelter is connected to the walk by a compacted gravel path. It is accessible to wheelchairs. The tables are an old style without roll under space.

4. Water fountains

There are no properly accessible water fountains. It is best to carry your own water bottle.

5. Information shelter

You can walk or roll into the Information shelter. It has a bench seat. There is a map and signs with other park details.

6. A popular picnic spot

Many people have picnics and play games in the park. Large trees provide shady places.

7. The path to the lake

The path is generally very wide and smooth with occasional small root rises. You can walk or roll side by side. There is a mild slope as you approach the lake. Cyclists may also use the path.

8. Bushland

Bushland along the walk has many native plants. Many of the trees are beautiful to look at.

9. Footbridge

The is a short, wide, humped concrete footbridge when you get near the lake.

10. The beach

The beach at the lake is popular for watching birds. There is a step down to the beach.

11. Benches

Benches are provided on the path by the lake.

12. Birdlife

There are many water birds to see. This Australian Darter is drying its wings.

13. Large picnic shelter

This large picnic shelter is near the path. You have to cross grass to get to it. There is room for wheelchairs. The tables are an old style without roll under space.

14. Fishing

Many people like to fish in the lake. There are jetties to fish from. The main jetty on the lake was closed for repairs at the time of writing.

15. Accessible toilet

The accessible toilet has a basin, steel bowl, hand dryer, folding change table and hand rails. The door is 850mm wide. It is in an old bathroom that has a stained brick walls and concrete floor.
