This is a walk or roll for lovers of farm animals. Visit sheep, goats, chickens and cattle. Get close enough to say "Hello". There are art works to enjoy and Eden Cafe for refreshment.

Description

Walk around to visit the farm animals. View the community art on display. A dam has waterbirds to see and there is a veranda café with ramps to it.

Is this walk accessible for me?
This walk is accessible for everyone. It can be done by foot, wheelchair or with other mobility aids.

How accessible is the path?
The farm is at the top of a low hill. Paths are a combination of sealed surfaces and firm compacted gravel. They are generally smooth and wide enough for wheelchairs to turn and side by side travel. Some paths have mild slopes. Ramps are installed to match steps. Information signs are present, although often above wheelchair height and faded.

Overall, paths are in good condition for walking or rolling. Some paths have more loose gravel than others (by the dam). Gravel paths may have puddling and soft patches after rain. There are lips where different surfaces meet, uneven areas and leaf litter.

Shorter walks can be taken. There is a lower car park for alternative pick-ups. Mobile coverage is good.

Cyclists may share some paths.

Rest areas
There is tree shade and several shelters are accessible to wheelchairs. Various forms of seating are provided, most are benches. Seats and tables in shelters are movable.

Drinking water
Fountains are not designed for wheelchair access. Carry a water bottle.

Toilets
There is an accessible toilet. Note: there are lips at either end of the toilets passage way between the concrete flooring and gravel paths outside.

Dogs
Dogs are not permitted.

Parking
The walk starts at the off street car park. The surface is sealed, wide, smooth and flat. There is no road crossing or need to walk through the car park. Two accessible parking spaces have a protected side zone with kerb free access to the walk. There is room for rear loading.

Public Transport
There is no public transport to the farm. Eltham Railway Station is not far by taxi.

Points of Interest

1. Accessible parking

The car park at the end of Gastons Road has 2 accessible spaces with a protected side zone. There is no kerb. The walk starts here.

2. Path surfaces

Paths are wide and either sealed or of compacted gravel. There are lips where different surfaces meet.

3. Chickens

As you walk up to the chickens they run towards you with feeding on their minds. Feed packets are available for feeding some animals.

4. The goat shed

Walk or roll right in to take a peek at the goat's bedroom.

5. Dogs

Dogs are not permitted on the farm.

6. A modest slope

The steepest slope is this one to the lower car park (no accessible spaces). There are some interesting sculptural works at the end.

7. Path to the dam

The compacted gravel paths are generally firm and smooth. This one to the dam has some loose gravel on the surface.

8. Dam view

There are a variety of seating and shelter styles around the farm. These are overlooking the dam.

9. Cattle

People enjoy saying "Hello" to the friendly young calves.

10. Community space

As a Community Environment Farm Edendale provides for community activity. There are internal and external meeting and educational spaces. Steps are supplemented by ramps (1.6m wide) to public spaces.

11. Accessible toilet

The accessible toilet is behind the community centre. Door width is 0.8 metres, area is 1.85x2.25 metres. There are two entrances to the passage way with lips to the gravel path outside at either end.

12. Art works

Art works are on display around the farm.

13. Homestead and Eden Cafe

Eden Cafe can be found at the back of the historic homestead building - home to the Diamond Valley Arts Society. There are ramps (1.3m wide) up to the veranda based tables and chairs.

14. Shelters

There are several shelters with roll in access to paved surfaces. Many have pleasant garden views. Tables, chairs and benches can be moved around make the best use of these spaces.
