This lovely, sheltered beach is a wonderful place to walk; a great reason to stretch your legs if you're headed to other Bass Coast destinations such as Phillip Island or Inverloch.

Perhaps it was just a very calm day when we explored this part of Western Port, but we thoroughly enjoyed the gentle half-hour beach stroll at Grantville.
Parts of this walk may only be accessible at low tide.
If you have only every flown through Grantville on your way to somewhere else then take the time (next time!) to stop and stretch your legs at this calm beach overlooking French Island.
Highlights of this walk include some small mangrove areas, an off track recreation reserve, historical markers next to the jetty and all the usual pleasant surprises such as natural driftwood sculptures and stranded jellyfish!
Western Port is home to over 300 bird species so keep an eye and ear out for some of them.
Most of this walk is dog on-lead, but there is one section that is dog off-leash as you approach the turnaround point (photo POI).
Please keep your pet on-leash at all other parts of this foreshore walk.

The foreshore walk begins with an accessible crushed gravel path to the north of the Pier Road car park area.
Take the wooden step down onto the sand. This is where the accessible trail ends.
Dogs are permitted off-leash between here and Swan Street (map point 4). Remember you must have your dog under effective control even when off-leash (recall ability).
Do not allow your dog off-leash beyond this point (Swan St). A good place to turn around, perhaps!
If you want to check out the Grantville Recreation Reserve you can take a little detour along this track through the dunes (look for the little boardwalk through shrubs).
Western Port is home to many bird species, some of which may be resting in the mangroves as you dawdle past! This photo is the eroding shoreline (not mangroves!)
We loved reading the snippets of history located just before the old jetty. You'll see the public toilets in this area too.
