The hidden gem of Lakes Entrance, this out-of-the-way walk affords some of the best and most uncluttered views over the town and extensive system of waterways this region is famed for.
This great walk takes you from the southern end of Lakes Entrance out along Reeves Channel, while the elevated route back provides some of the best views over Lakes Entrance.
There were very few other people doing this walk when we did it at Easter 2021, leading us to speculate it's a bit undiscovered!
The highlight is walking along built-up granite track with views over Rigbys Island, watching the waterbirds diving for fish.
The Kalimna Jetty marks the turnaround point.
Return: Those with prams or mobility challenges could head back the same way.
However our route heads up and over the hill to Hotel Road then back across North Arm via the Princes Highway. You'll see stairs at the Kalimna jetty carpark. The route this way is shorter (but steeper!) and swaps close-up beauty for great sweeping views from the roadside.
Up top, the Kalimna Hotel is an option for a bite to eat or a cooling drink. You'll get some fantastic views from the two lookouts located along Hotel Road.
There are two options for returning back to Marine Parade Reserve (this walk's start point). You can head to Jemmy's Lookout (see point #16) or follow this map for a more direct walk, following the Princes Highway back across the North Arm.
This walk was mapped with assistance from LEADA and support from VicHealth.

Marine Parade Reserve, opposite the Visitor Information Centre., marks the start of this walk. There are toilets. drinking taps and of course the playground - so make use of them before setting off!
From the playground follow the signs to Kalimna Jetty by taking a left at this junction to cross the North Arm.
You'll be somewhat compensated for the sounds of rushing traffic by these great views over North Arm. There is a dedicated footpath up here.
Once you're off the bridge take the left path again, a peaceful bush track.
It's very serene along here. You'll see a few other walkers, perhaps some cyclists (although the track is not sealed so they travel slowly).
This is a dog-friendly walk, but do keep your friend on a lead to protect native flora and fauna.
You'll soon emerge form the trees and if it's a sunny day you can enjoy spectacular colours; azure waters, red granite rocks and the coastal succulents . Amazing contrast!
Not sure about you but we thought the rocks forming the track were beautiful (not just functional).
These circling, diving birds were constant companions as we made our way towards the jetty. What sort are they? They are good at fishing!
Kalimna Jetty is pretty little, but Gee - it's in a lovely spot.
For your convenience.
We'd love to learn more about this rainforest and whether there are parts you can walk through.
The climb up to the hilltop (and views) starts here. Find the stairs just off the jetty carpark.
Once you've completed the climb you'll find yourself on Hotel Road. The waterside does not have a footpath, however there are few cars. See link for hotel/pub information.
You'll get a fantastic view from this new lookout. We didn't want to spoil the fun - so be sure to stop and take a look.
You can cross the highway here and take an alternate route back to our start point via Jemmy's lookout and Seaview Parade. Otherwise, ignore and continue on this map, heading back over the North Arm.
This more direct route takes you back along the Princes Highway and over the water.
And here we are, back at Marine Parade Reserve. We hope you enjoyed the lovely Kalmina Jetty walk. Share this map with your friends!
