Description

Find out more

This walk loops around the stunningly situated artificial Burndap Lake and wetlands on a broad area of land fringing the banks of the Maribyrnong River. The development was part of a rehabilitation of the area for housing. It had been previously occupied by a government supply department. The works required raising the low-lying river flats above flood levels while creating a lake directly connected to the river. The lake area is managed by Parks Victoria. The surrounding parklands are part of the City of Maribyrnong.

The success of the development is evident in just how popular it has become. The natural attractions of the riverside setting only 7 kilometres from Melbourne City are wonderful to immerse yourself in by walking. It is enjoyed by many locals and visitors.

Highlights are the many fantastic lake, river and wetlands access points. You can’t get any closer and the water birds love it here.

The main paths are sealed, smooth and wide. There are also smaller bushy trails and stepping stones through native vegetation and across floodways to explore.

There are food and drink outlets in the Edgewater commercial centre right on the lake. The paths have seating including lounges. There are drinking water, BBQ and picnic facilities as well as a playground.

Dogs must be on a leash.

Public transport
Bus No. 409 runs along Myers Road.

Car parking
There are various options for parking at either end of the walk in public car parks or along roadsides parallel to the lakefront.
