Seasoned walkers will think of the Mt St Leonard walk (not far from Healesville) as a challenging day walk, 8.5km each way along and up a steep track from Donnelly Weir. But if you'd like a cheat's version that still affords great views across the Yarra Valley from the summit of Mt St Leonard then this is the walk for you!
If you're travelling from Healesville head north and take the Myers Creek Road and turn right into the unsealed Monda Road, which curls upwards toward Mt St Leonard, situated near the Yarra Ranges National Park.
There is a small parking area where Monda Road meets Road 10. From the car park, it's about a 1km walk along a track up to the viewing platform.
It's a short walk, and while the track gets steep near the summit it is quite achievable for most people.
Please note that DOGS ARE NOT PERMITTED on this walk.
Note: We heard some gun shots in the distance when we did this walk, so presumably there is hunting activity not far from here.

Go through the gate to the start of the walk track. Note the sign, no dogs.
We took the road track up to the top, then the walk path (short-cut) on the way back down.
The track up is hard work in places but the beautiful trees make it worth the effort.
Kids will find their own fun along the way
The Donnelly Weir track is a tough one! Stick to the main path to get to the viewing platform.
You can see the lookout. It's up a steep ,metal ladder and stairs.
Mt St. Leonard is 1100m above sea level so on a good day you can see a long way!
We took the short cut back down the hill / mountain! You'll see it to the left as you leave the lookout area. Make sure you stick to well-worn paths.
The light is lovely in the late afternoon.
