Description

Begin your walk at Parliament Station in Melbourne's central business area.

Walk north along Spring Street, and veer right onto Nicholson Street. Cross over Victoria Parade into the Carlton Gardens.

Walk north through the gardens, enjoying the natural environment with trees, flora, ponds, grassed spaces and benches. Make your way to the Royal Exhibition Building and next to it the Melbourne Museum. Continue to explore these spaces and garden, then cross Nicholson Street onto Gertrude Street.

Walk east along Gertrude Street, taking your time to explore the great boutiques, cafes, bars and restaurants. Some tips include a stop at Little Salon for gifts, a coffee and pastry at hip De Cleiu, lunch at retro-pub The Builders Arms, and try the samples at Aesop.

Turn right onto Smith Street, where you can continue to cafe- and boutique-hop your way to Victoria Parade. Cross over Victoria Parade and turn right, walking back towards the city. Take your next left down the tree-lined Eades Street. Cross over Albert Street and enter the lush Fitzroy Gardens.

Take your time exploring the park. You can make your way south through the park, following the signage to the Pavillion Cafe for a cool drink. See the Model Tutor Village next to the cafe, and continue you walk south to Sinclair's Cottage. From there walk west towards the city, to Cook's Cottage. After a visit to the Cottage continue west to the Conservatory. You will find toilets and water fountains along the way.

Continue west towards the city's skyscrapers, walking past Treasury Place and reaching Spring Street. Turn right and walk north towards Parliament Station, passing the Old Treasury Building and Parliament House. You will finish your walk at Parliament Station.
