Is this walk accessible for me?
This walk is accessible for everyone. It is easy to do on foot, in a wheelchair or with another mobility aid.

What can I see?
Ringwood Lake is a pretty place for walking or rolling. The park has shady forest and green lawns. Ramps give access to a dock and a bridge with a shelter in the middle. There are water birds to see.

How accessible is the path?
This path can be enjoyed as a full loop or a return walk or roll around the lake. The paths are sealed. They are wide enough for side by side walking and easy turning. There are no steps on this walk. Follow the path in the order of the points of interest to make the one short, moderate slope easier by going downhill.

There is car parking at both ends of the lake if you need a different pick up point. Mobile coverage is good.

Cyclists may also use the paths.

Rest areas
BBQs, picnic tables and seating are found in the park.

Trees and shelters provide shade. The playground includes water, sand, tactile and ramped sites. There is a Liberty swing on which children in a wheelchair can experience gliding through the air.

Accessible water fountains vary. Bubbler style water fountains may not be accessible. Carrying a water bottle is a good idea.

Dogs
Dogs must be on leash.

Parking
The walk starts from a purpose-built off street accessible car park with five wide spaces.

Public Transport
Buses are to and from Ringwood Railway Station on Route 670. Bus stops are outside the park on Maroondah Hwy. These are accessible by footpaths and a traffic lights. There are no shelters or seats. There is passenger information.

Rail and taxi
There is a taxi rank at Ringwood Station.

Points of Interest

1. Accessible car parking entrance

The entrance is clearly signed. Accessible parking is located within the parkland off Maroondah Hwy.

2. Exclusive accessible car park

Five dedicated disabled parking bays are provided. Each is paired to a bollard protected side bay. Surfaces are bitumen, sealed, smooth and flat.

3. Pathway with safety rails

A 1.5m wide, smooth and sealed pathway exits the car park toward the lakeside. This is the narrowest section of pathway on this route. Most are up to 2.7m wide.

4. Changing places and accessible toilets

These toilets are at the Maroondah Hwy end of the toilet block a short distance below the accessible car park. Doors are 1.0m wide.

5. Playgrounds and shelters

The playgrounds are sprawling, with lots of room between features. Included are ramps, broad slides and a Liberty swing. There are nearby BBQ and picnic shelters.

6. Dock and bridge shelter

Ramps provide access to the waterside dock and across the bridge there is a shelter.

7. Meet the locals

The lake is home to a variety of birdlife and the Wood ducks are used to people watching their ducklings.

8. The pathway surfaces

On the whole, the path is smooth, intact and in good condition. Occasional tree roots cause small rises in places. There is a 20m stretch at this point where the path gets a bit rougher.

9. The ford

A creek runs into Ringwood Lake under a concrete ford most of the time. Avoid this area after heavy rain if it is flooded.

10. The highest point is not very high

If you choose to follow the route as described, this slightly steeper slope than any others on the walk will be easier to travel downhill.

11. A pretty spot

There are several points along the path you can access the waterside. Most are of compacted granitic sand and have room for wheelchairs to turn around.

12. Public transport: the bus stop

The stop on the Lake side of Maroondah Hwy is Larissa Ave route 670. It is 25m to the park entrance on a 1.5m wide concrete footpath. Use the pedestrian crossing to access the other side of the road.

13. A popular place

The locals love Ringwood Lake, and you can tell. The evidence is there. A visit comes with many smiles and friendly greetings as you make your way around.

14. Information signs

There is plenty of directional signage around the lake.

15. Food and potable water

Push button potable water is available as fountains or for water bottle filling. Although there are no food outlets on site, there are a number opposite on Maroondah Hwy via a pedestrian crossing.
