A nice walk through bush and farmland along the Green Wedge Trail connecting between train stations.

Description

The bulk of the walk follows the Green Wedge Trail. This trail isn't very well mapped. I cobbled together the route from multiple sources. However it is signed on the way. It is a simple gravel track mostly that follows near a lot of quiet roads.

The trail does not connect directly to public transit on either end. It is close to Wattle Glen Station and there is a foot path along much of the road to Watery Gully Road. The trail proper starts around Thorns Road.

On the other end it ends in Smiths Gully. From here you can mostly follow trails through Bulwidgjl Reserve (Shared with BMX; didn't see any when I was there but it was a week day). Then along Long Gully Road. There is a short trail segment but the road is otherwise very quiet. Through Panton Hill Bushalnd Reserve and then along footpaths in Panton Hill to to a wide path following Cherry Tree Road all the way into Hurstbridge.

I really enjoy the stretch along Motschall Road and connection to Clintons Road since it reminds me of one of my favourite spots in the world. The Cherry Tree Road, while off road, is tedious and poorly shaded though. Would probably suggest starting from Hurstbridge (I didn't...).

Points of Interest

1. Nameless Pond

When you reach the low point between Couties Road and Cracknells Road you get view of a nice little pond.

2. Lunch Spot

Probably the most distant spot from a road along the trail the path follows the property line and leads to a nice quiet spot.

3. The lost Tin Man

This fellow is a long way from that Emerald town.
