Description

Find out more

This lovely park is one of City of Boroondara's most popular natural spaces to get some exercise, courtesy of its lovely gravel tracks, bushland setting and large open green spaces.

Our walk will begin next to the newly upgraded accessible playground. We'll take a small clockwise loop around the lower sport ground before heading south along the Glass Creek trail, past the tennis club,

We'll then head back into the park proper for a slightly bigger loop around the sport fields to finish up back where we started!

Public toilets and drinking water taps are available. There is a medium sized car park at the end of Leason Street next to the playground, and another smaller car park at the north-west corner of the park (Lister Street).

Safety: While we have graded this 2.1km walk as 'easy' please note that Hay's Paddock is a very popular place for people to walk their dogs off-leash (so you may encounter lots of off-leash dogs on or near the walking paths). This can be an issue for people with balance / mobility issues.

Points of Interest

1. Hay's Paddock Playground

This adventure playground was rebuilt and is now all abilities and full of fun equipment for everyone! It reopened in August 2024.

2. Sports fields

We'll walk between the two sort fields on our first lap of Hay's Paddock! The lower sport field is dog off-leash.

3. Nice walking paths

The paths down the eastern side of Hay's Paddock are wide and accessible. We hope you like dogs!

4. Detour to Glass Creek

Continue straight at the bottom of the lower sports fields to continue along the creek trail. Don't turn right back toward the playground at this point. Dogs should be on leash in this area.

5. Wetlands area

Follow over the little bridge and look back for this lovely view over Glass Creek.

6. Creek trail (narrow)

This section of the trail is more narrow and has slight up and down gradients. It may not be accessible for people with mobility disabilities.

7. Tennis Club

The little paths in this area will take you past Kew East Catholica Tennis Club. Use the paths to take you back in a north direction back toward the playground.

8. Road bridge over creek

This section of Leason Street is shared by people walking and people in vehicles. We think you are supposed to walk in the yellow section? If you are in a car please take care and go slowly!

9. Back to playground area

We're almost back where we started!

10. Picnic shelter and BBQ

This is a lovely space with a sheltered picnic table and also BBQs nearby.

11. Bigger loop

The trails around the north and south sport fields are popular with walkers of all ages!

12. Heading back to finish

On our second bigger lap we'll cut back to our start point across the southern end of the lower sport oval.
