A there and back walk along Scotchman's Creek Linear Reserve in Mount Waverley.
Starts at the small car park off Forster Road and follows Scotchman's Creek, a tributary of Gardiner's Creek, itself a Yarra tributary, under the Monash Freeway, past the Melbourne Water Retarding Basin (more attractive than it sounds) to Huntingdale Rd, where it connects with the Scotchman's Creek Trail in Chadstone. You can walk back for much of the way on the other side of the creek, though under the Monash it involves some careful stepping through the tunnel.

If you have come by car, park at the Fairway Reserve Car Park off Forster Road. You can start on the trail direct off the car park, or walk down Forsters Road and start on the other side.
The path and creek go under the bridge which carries Stephenson's Road across the gully, and over the Monash Freeway.
Four tunnels take the creeks and paths under the Monash Freeway. The tunnel with the handrail on the far right is for the main track.
This complicated piece of engineering channels the creek into the Retarding Basin to control flooding.
Notwithstanding the rather unbeguiling name, the lake and wetland created is fairly attractive when well maintained.
There are two paths beside the wetlands. One (the high road) is sealed and shared with cyclists, the other (the low road) is unsealed but unless it has been very wet is perfectly fine for walkers.
From here you can either continue to the Chadstone part of the trail - see link below - or return.
On your return walk you can continue back the way you cam, or on crossing Stanley St, take the path on the south side of the Creek. Warning - the tunnel under the Monash this way is a bit dark.
If you chose to return on the southern path, the best route is through the right-most tunnel. But be careful, it is unlit (maybe use your phone light) and can be muddy.
