Description

Find out more

Colac Botanic Gardens was established in 1865 and is located along the southern side of Lake Colac and provides a beautiful, peaceful atmosphere which is ideal for people of all ages, including runners, bikers and dog walkers.

Enjoy walking around the many intertwined pathways the showcase all the gardens have to offer and provide a scenic view of the still, calm waters of Lake Colac where you are welcome to take out your boat.

Colac Botanic Gardens offers a substantial playground, including a sensory garden and accessible play equipment where the kids can spend some time playing around whilst you sit nearby on a bench or start up lunch on the close-by BBQ area.

The beautiful rose garden Arbour is best seen in the summer months when the roses are in full bloom, however it is beautiful any time. Ensure you take time to sit down and enjoy the fountain and pond where you could easily fall asleep to the calming sound of water flowing.

Stop by the cannon and learn about it’s interesting history as part of the armament of HMVS Nelson, one of the Navy’s training ships in 1867.

If you are a real garden buff then you will love the time and effort placed into signs naming each and every flower and tree this garden encompasses, as well as the rainforest walk which replicates the flora seen in the Otway Ranges Forest.

Lastly, don’t forget to stop by the popular café overlooking the lake for a bite to eat accompanied by beautiful views.

Further Information:

- Gates allowing access to the gardens are open from 10am-4pm daily.

- Dogs on leads are welcome into the garden grounds as well as the café. A bonus are the doggy disposal bags which are provided at the gates.

- Ensure you stay well clear of the Grey Headed Flying Foxes who are known to call this garden their home. Do not touch them and you will be perfectly fine!

- There are many walks that start from the Botanic Gardens and are clearly signposted, such as a creek walk and a walk into the city centre (approximately a 1km walk from the park entrance).
