Start this walk in the township’s Triangle Park which provides access to quality amenities and attractive highlights including mature trees, a big playground, a War Memorial and tourist information. This short return walk then takes you to the hilltop Memorial Park.
The walk is of interest to anyone wishing to get a feel of the town without a longer stay being required. The CBD and surrounding built environment you pass along the way, represent an engaging architectural legacy of the town’s relocation in the mid 1950s. The hilltop Memorial Garden has pleasant features and offers views across Lake Hume, the township and to the surrounding hills.
Autumn is a particularly attractive time in Tallangatta due to the many deciduous trees.
Ideal for families of all generations, if you have had kids in the car for a while this walk is a good way to let them burn off some energy. There is a modest incline up to the gates and steps to pass through. The paths are paved on the way up and the area within is grassy lawn. There are seats in both parks.
There are clean public toilets and potable water available in the Triangle Park.
Dogs must be on a leash.

This lovely park of delightful deciduous trees in the centre of town offers access to shops, tourist information, a playground, clean public toilets, picnic tables,BBQs, water and a War Memorial.
As you head off you will walk through markers acknowledging the visits of various celebrity performers to the town. Look ahead past the Shire buildings on your left, to the park on the hilltop.
The public hall is an excellent example of the 1950s architectural legacy reminiscent of the township's relocation in 1955 to make way for establishment of Lake Hume.
Commemorative gates marking the entrance to the park announce the purpose of this contemplative space as a memorial for Australians who fell in war, "For God, Home, Empire. Lest we forget."
Constructed by the Tallangatta Horticultural Society in 2004, the Peace Garden is dedicated to world peace.
Old Tallangatta was a WWII Volunteer Observation Post. This plaque explains the interesting history and the Corps achievements.
It is a short walk up a steady incline to the park. A nice shady spot to sit, rest and reflect has been provided.
The Memorial Park sits atop the highest point inside the township. There are views across Lake Hume, the township itself and to the surrounding countryside.
